Temporary Work Visa (Subclass 482)

This visa is a temporary visa for skilled workers sponsored by an approved Australian employer. This visa allows them to work and live in Australia for up to four years. However, Australian employers can only nominate an overseas skilled worker if they cannot find a suitable Australian citizen or permanent resident to do the skilled work and have a genuine need for a paid employee to fill a skilled position. 

Visa Requirements:

• An approved Australian employer has nominated you.
• Your nominated occupation must be in relevant skilled occupations list: 
  • Long-term stream: if your occupation is listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), your visa can be granted up to four years 
  • Medium-term stream: if your occupation is not listed on the or the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), your visa can be granted up to two years. However, it can be granted for four years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies.
• You must have the required skills and qualifications for the position. You may need to provide a suitable skills assessment for your nominated occupation from relevant Assessment Authority.
• You should provide evidence that you have worked in the nominated occupation, or a related field, for at least two years.
  
• You meet registration and licensing obligations if it is required for your nominated occupation.
• You meet the English language requirement  :
  • Short-term stream: You achieved an overall test score of at least 5.0 with a score of at least 4.5 in each of the four test components or equivalent score for other standard English tests unless you are exempt under specific circumstances.
  • Medium-term stream: You achieved an overall test score of at least 5.0 with a score of at least 5 in each of the four test components or equivalent score for other standard English tests unless you are exempt under specific circumstances.

Including Family Members:

You can include the following family members in your application:

1. Your partner.
2. Your dependent children or stepchildren.

What this visa lets you do in Australia:

This visa is a temporary visa and allows you and any family member migrating with you to:

1.  Live, Study and work in Australia for up to four years.
2. Travel to and from Australia while a visa is valid.
3. Apply for permanent residency after a specific time, usually after two years working in Australia, if your occupation is on Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and met the other requirements.
