Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa (Subclass 491)

The Skilled Regional visa is a temporary visa that allows skilled workers to live and work in the specific areas of Australia for up to five years. This visa is points-tested and requires a nomination by an Australian state/territory or a sponsorship from an eligible relative living in a designated area and is Australian permanent resident or citizen.

Visa Requirements:

In order to apply for this visa, you must have:

  1. An occupation that is in the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)
  2. Obtained a suitable skills assessment for your nominated occupation.
  3. At least competent English.
  4. Been nominated by an Australian state/territory or a sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area.
  5. Lodged an EOI and been invited to apply for this visa.
  6. Not turned 45 years of age when you received an invitation to apply.
  7. Achieved the pass mark on the skilled migration points test, currently 65 points
  8. Good health and character.

Including Family Members:

You can include the following family members in your application:

  1. Your partner
  2. Your dependent children/stepchildren or your partner's dependent children/stepchildren

What this visa lets you do in Australia:

This visa allows you and any family member migrating with you to:

  1. Live, work and study in a regional Australia up to four years. However, you should live at least three years and work full time for 36 months in a regional or low population growth area to be eligible to apply for permanent residency.
  2. You and your family will be eligible to have medicare from the date of arrival.
