Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485)

This visa is a temporary visa for international students recently graduated from a Recognised Australian educational provider. This visa allows you to stay between eighteen months and four years in Australia depends on your situation to gain the skilled work experience.

Visa streams:

You can apply for this visa through one of the following streams:

• Graduate Work stream – for international students with an eligible qualification who graduate with skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation on  Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).A visa in this stream is valid for 18 months from the date of grant.

• Post-Study Work stream – for international students who graduate with a higher education degree from an Australian education provider, regardless of their field of study. This stream is only available to students who applied for and was granted, their first student visa to Australia on or after 5 November 2011. A visa in this stream can is valid for up to four years from the date of grant, depending on the visa applicant's qualification.

Visa Requirements:

To apply for this visa, you must:

1. Hold a valid visa and be under 50 years of age.
2. Lodge your application in Australia.
3. Studied an eligible course/s which takes at least two years of study to be completed (educational requirements) and must apply within six months from the completion date.
4. You must meet health and character requirements.
5. Meet the language ability requirement if either you:

• are a citizen of the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, the United States of America or the Republic of Ireland;
•  or  have achieved :
  • an overall average of 6 and at least 5 in each band in IELTS Academic or General Training test; or
  • B Pass in each band in Occupational English Test (OET); or
  • the overall average of 50 with at least 36 in each band in Pearson (PTE Academic); or
  • total score of 64, with at least 4 in Listening and Reading, and at least 14 in Writing and Speaking in TOEFL iBT (Internet Based Test):; or
  • 169 overall average with at least 154 in each band in Cambridge (CAE).
