Spouse/Partner Visa

This visa allows the applicants to live in Australia with their spouse or partner who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

This visa is assessed in two stages:

  1. In the first stage, after an initial assessment, a two –year temporary visa will be issued which allow you to live in Australia with your partner.
  2. In the second stage, after completion of 2 years from the date of the application, if you are still in a genuine and ongoing relationship with your partner, you can apply for permanent residency. 

Visa Requirements:

In order to apply for this visa, you must: 

  1. Intend to live as husband or wife with an Australian citizen or permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  2. Be in a genuine and ongoing relationship with your spouse or de facto partner.
  3. Be sponsored by your spouse or de facto partner.
  4. Meet health and character requirements.

Including Family Members:

You can include the following family members in your application:

  1. Your dependent children.

Visa options :

  1. Applicants living in Australia can apply for a Partner visa (subclass 820/subclass 801).
  2. Applicants living in Overseas can apply for a Partner visa (subclass 309/subclass100).

What this visa lets you do in Australia:

  1. Live with your partner in Australia until a decision is made for your permanent partner visa.
  2. Work and study in Australia.
  3. Enrol in Medicare, Australia’s scheme for health-related care and expenses
